Project Description
We recently completed this driveway installation at a property in Northampton, combining traditional Dutch clay pavers with a spacious gravel parking area. The project was designed to create a durable, practical driveway while maintaining a natural appearance that complements the surrounding garden and the character of the property.
The finished design provides clear structure to the driveway while still keeping an open and natural feel. By combining block paving with decorative gravel, the installation offers both strength in key areas and a cost-effective solution for covering a larger parking space.
Before and After
Before the project began, the driveway consisted of a narrow paved section alongside a large gravel area that lacked clear structure and edging. The layout made parking awkward and the space did not make the most of the available frontage.
We redesigned the driveway to create a more organised and visually appealing layout. Curved borders were introduced using Dutch clay pavers, defining the edges of the driveway and creating a smooth flow from the entrance to the parking area.
The new layout provides significantly more usable parking space, better vehicle access and a much more polished finish to the front of the property.

Dutch Pavers Block Paving Installation
Dutch pavers block paving was used to form the main driveway borders, access route and turning areas. These traditional clay pavers were installed in a herringbone pattern, which is widely used for driveways due to its strength and ability to withstand regular vehicle traffic.
The curved layout of the paving helps guide vehicles naturally into the driveway while softening the overall appearance of the space. The clay tones of the Dutch pavers also complement the brickwork of the house, helping the driveway blend seamlessly with the property.

Gravel Driveway Parking Area
The central parking area was finished using decorative gravel, creating a spacious and practical surface suitable for multiple vehicles. Gravel is an excellent choice for larger driveways, as it provides good drainage while maintaining a natural look.
Proper preparation of the sub-base ensures the gravel remains stable and well-drained, helping to prevent sinking or movement over time. The surrounding block paving borders keep the gravel neatly contained while maintaining a clean and defined finish.
A Practical and Attractive Driveway Design
Combining block paving with gravel offers the best of both materials. The paved areas provide strength, structure and easy access routes, while the gravel surface delivers a softer visual finish and allows larger areas to be covered efficiently.
The completed driveway now provides ample parking space and significantly improves the appearance of the property’s frontage. The curved Dutch paver borders add character to the design while helping to organise the layout of the driveway.
